Frequently Asked Questions - Gratia Terracotta Pots

About Our Products

1. Are your terracotta pots handmade?

Yes! All our terracotta pots are 100% handcrafted by Portuguese artisans using traditional techniques. Each piece is unique, with small natural variations that celebrate the authenticity of Portuguese craftsmanship.

2. Which interior design styles are your pots suitable for?

Our handmade terracotta pots are perfectly suited for various interior design styles: rustic, minimalist, wabi-sabi, Mediterranean, and luxurious. The versatility and authenticity of Portuguese terracotta make these pieces ideal for creating unique and sophisticated environments in any space.

3. What is the difference between the models (Kora, Alba, Safi, etc.)?

Each model has unique design and size characteristics. The Kora models stand out for their simple and elegant lines, the Alba for their minimalist design, the Safi for their shiny texture, and so on. All pieces maintain the artisanal quality and authenticity of Portuguese terracotta.

4. Do the pots have drainage holes?

Yes, all our pots have drainage holes, only the Cachepot collection pots do not have a hole.

5. Can I use the pots outdoors?

Yes, handmade terracotta pots can be used both indoors and outdoors. Terracotta is a resistant natural material, ideal for garden plants and outdoor decoration. However, in very cold climates, we recommend protecting the pots during winter.

Care and Maintenance

6. How should I care for terracotta pots?

Terracotta is a porous and natural material that requires simple care:

  • Clean with a damp cloth and water
  • Avoid harsh chemical products
  • Terracotta may develop a natural patina over time, which is normal and adds character
  • If used for plants, ensure good drainage

7. Can the pots break easily?

Handmade terracotta is resistant, but like any ceramic, it can break if dropped or subjected to a strong impact. Handle with care, especially during cleaning or relocation.

8. Is it normal for white spots to appear on the pots?

Yes, it is completely normal. White spots (efflorescence) are mineral salts from water that accumulate on the porous surface of the terracotta. They can be removed with a soft brush and water, or left as part of the natural patina that adds character to the pot.
